I remember watching House episodes intermittently back in the day, mostly the early stuff, like seasons 1 and 2 with the original team, and a few here and there with the new team. Those were the high school days, no set T.V. schedule in sight making it difficult to maintain weekly contact with any show, let alone an hour-long drama for eight straight years. Still I enjoyed those moments, many of them involved laughing and thoughtful recollection, plus a Hugh Laurie fix is always fulfilling.

Skip ahead to a couple weeks ago when I thought it was time to take advantage of the ole Netflix account actually pay for on a monthly basis. Immediately my interest turned to all the T.V. shows they have cataloged, as that seemed like the best place to get my money’s worth. Scrolling through took some time, there’s copious amounts of crap shows you have to dig through, which I guess makes you value anything of decency. Honestly I only have two criteria for finding a show to watch on Netflix: 1. The show has to be finished. 2. All seasons must be able to stream. That’s pretty much it, though lately I sway towards dramas over sit-coms.

House fit both those points, it wrapped back in 2012 and all eight seasons are available for your bored pleasure. Really, the show was a pretty easy choice, I enjoyed it years ago and well, Hugh Laurie. If you know me, you know binge watching is a bit of an addiction. Going from point A to point B as fast as possible is my forte – A being the series premiere and B being its finale – because frankly in my mind there is no other way.

Okay, enough with all this preamble verbiage, here’s everything House, M.D.

Ranking the Seasons:

8. Season 8

house,-m.d.-season-eight-dvd-cover-44

the team:

  • Dr. Chi Park
  • Dr. Jessica Adams
  • Dr. Robert Chase
  • Dr. Chris Taub

Quite the unanimous choice in my mind for worst season of the series. So much was missing, so many other roads the writers could have explored, instead we were left with a dumbed down season 6. Dr. House returns to one of the blandest teams in the show’s history, seriously it was as if the writers and producers stopped caring about three dimensions and chemistry. By episode three I was hoping it was all a cruel joke, but 19 episodes later I realized it was not… it was not.

7. Season 6

200px-House_S6_DVD

the team:

  • Dr. Eric Foreman
  • Dr. Robert Chase
  • Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley
  • Dr. Chris Taub

Not much happens in this season. That’s really the main reason why Season 6 finds itself here. House is a “new” man straight out of the looney bin, attempting to better himself one step at a time. The old team is combined with the new team, I guess hoping to spark something new in the series. I don’t know, there was a cool episode here and there, but for the most part I have trouble remembering anything worthwhile.

6. Season 3

the team:

  • Dr. Eric Foreman
  • Dr. Allison Cameron
  • Dr. Robert Chase

Half way through this season it became quite apparent the show needed a change, evidently I was right because Season 4 is drastically different. Still, it was a tough call putting this season at #6, but I guess that’s what happens when the other seasons are just plain better. At least this season contained episodes actually leading towards something, unlike those guys above *cough* *cough* (am I right?!).

5. Season 5

the team:

  • Dr. Eric Foreman
  • Dr. Lawrence Kutner
  • Dr. Chris Taub
  • Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley

Man, this season had some of my favorite episodes of the entire series, a character may or may not die randomly, hallucinations are had, said hallucinations really screw with the personal and professional life of a certain somebody. Much happens, pushing the show in a positive direction and ending in a spectacle of emotions. Too bad Season 6 ruined everything this season accomplished.

4. Season 4

HouseMD-s4-US-DVD

the team:

  • Dr. Eric Foreman
  • Dr. Lawrence Kutner
  • Dr. Chris Taub
  • Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley

Probably the most memorable moment of the show, I mean talk about tears. Lots of tears. Season 4 changed the show, a new team takes center stage – bravo to the casting director – and Dr. House is given a plethora of fresh avenues to trudge is manipulating self down. This was certainly a needed face lift for the series, giving me the hope I craved to get me through the remaining four seasons.

3. Season 1

the team:

  • Dr. Eric Foreman
  • Dr. Allison Cameron
  • Dr. Robert Chase

Got to respect your elders. The season that started it all, obviously this had to be good or else this list would have been a lot shorter. House struck gold with Hugh Laurie and then continued to succeed with the rest of the cast (looking back, the producers made some interesting choices). Great ideas and great writing catalyzed such a fantastic run, who knew putting Sherlock Holmes in a hospital setting would do so well?

2. Season 7

the team:

  • Dr. Eric Foreman
  • Dr. Robert Chase
  • Dr. Chris Taub
  • Martha Masters (episodes 6-19)
  • Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley (episodes 18-23)

I assume for most people Season 7 wouldn’t be this high on the list, but I’m a sucker for long awaited relationships. House and Cuddy finally do their thing after making viewers wait only about six years, which shows incredible strength from the writing team. Plus, after so many years and episodes, the team’s chemistry was still a thing of beauty making for countless intriguing moments. Almost makes you wish they ended the series on this season rather than “the one that shall not be named.”
